I understand lots of people love the look of eyelash extensions, but not everyone has the time and money to deal with all the up- keep. If you have the time and money, I would definitely recommend going and getting them done by a professional or at a salon. But I understand that is not the ideal situation for everyone. I went through a point in time where I did my own eyelash extensions for about four months & I figured I'd share the secret with everyone on how to do them!
Doing your own eyelash extensions can save you SO MUCH time & money. Not only do you no longer have to go through the hassle of setting up an appointment, but you also don't have to pay the hefty fees or worry about tipping the lash lady. It can all be done at home!
The greatest thing about doing your own lashes is that:
1. You can choose how thick or thin you want the layers to be.
2. You get to choose how you want the lashes to look on yourself.
Note: All the products I would buy are by the brand Ardell. Ardell is not affiliated with this post in any way, all opinions are 100% my own.
List of products that you need:
1. Lash Clusters in any length, comes in Short, Medium, and Long. (I would buy all 3 sizes). I found it was easier to use clusters rather than individuals, but I will also link individuals down below for those of you who are interested.
2. Black or Clear Lash Glue. (I would buy black lash glue, gives a fuller effect. I found that you could see clear lash glue in the light, and that it just didn't blend well).
3. Tweezers or a Lash Applicator
4. A magnifying mirror
I bought all my products from my local Sally's Beauty Supply. These
products can also be found online & I will make sure to link them all below.
How to:
Decide which eye you want to start with, and what lengths of the lashes you would like to use. For example (I would always do my right eye first since I am left handed, my right eye tended to take me more time. I also would use all 3 different lengths putting shorts in the inner corner, mediums in the middle of the lash, and longs in the outer corner). Depending on how you want your lashes to look you may only choose to use certain lengths that work for you.
To start I would always dump out a little bit of lash glue on a napkin that way I could work as fast as possible, as the glue does dry up after a certain amount of time. I would also take my lashes (in all different lengths) and lay them out in front of me.
Then take your tweezers and grab a lash of your choice, then dip the end of the lash in the glue - (If you have too much glue dab it off on your napkin).
Next lay the lash onto a group of 2-3 of your own natural eyelashes, making sure you don't get any glue in your eyes, or accidentally attach the lash to your eyelid. In all my experience of doing this I never got glue in my eyes.
Depending on how defining you want your extensions to look, you can add multiple layers. Being a brunette, I liked my lashes to look really thick and long so I would do 2-3 sometimes even 4 layers on myself. For blondes I would recommend only doing 1-2 layers. It can be a bit difficult at first, but you will get better and it will get easier as you go!
